Death remains puzzling
From Staff Reports
The results of the toxicology report from the female
student who died two weeks ago are inconclusive in determining the cause
of her death.
The toxicology test for Laura Williams, a junior
in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences, looked for illegal drugs
or medications that could have been harmful if taken in large doses.
Nothing definite was found, though.
Now microscopic tests of Williams' heart and lung
tissue are being examined for more information.
Williams died unexpectedly after her 21st birthday.
She celebrated her birthday on Jan. 20. The next
day, she left her room and took a shower around 4 p.m. After the shower,
Williams told her roommate that she was did not feel well and went back
to her room.
That was the last time Williams was seen alive.
Her body was found in her room on Jan. 22.
Martin Avolt, the Tippecanoe County Coroner, estimated
that Williams' time of death was sometime late at night on Jan. 21 or
early in the morning on Jan. 22.
Avolt said that he cannot say at this point whether
alcohol was a factor in Williams' death.
Joe Bennett, the vice president for University
relations, said, "We continue to express our sympathy to (Williams')
family and we hope that the continued investigation will determine the
exact cause of her death."
