Contest to define love for "Luxury Getaway"

By Alicia Swan

Every day around the world, people deliberate the meaning of the word "love." It is controversial, complicated and difficult. Today and Tuesday, students and faculty at Purdue will be able to enter their definitions of love in a contest.

Phi Sigma Pi, a National Honors Fraternity, will ask the age-old question, "What is love?"

For $2, people can submit their ideas from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today in the lobby of the Lilly Hall of Science, and on Tuesday in the lobby of the Liberal Arts and Education Building.

According to Scott Wuergler, a senior in the School of Management and member, the fraternity will select the more eloquent answers. Wuergler and Aimee McGregor, a senior in the School of Liberal Arts and member, will decide upon the grand prize winner.

Wuergler said the group hopes to raise at least $100 to put toward the group’s functions later in the year.

Although Phi Sigma Pi has never done anything like this before, Wuergler thinks the contest will go well. "I have very high expectations," he said.

The prize is a "Valentine's Luxury Getaway," including dinner and a hotel stay. Dinner will be served at Spageddies, an Italian restaurant in Lafayette.

The evening will conclude with a luxurious stay at Lee's Inn & Suites in Lafayette. The accommodations feature an indoor pool and an exercise room; the room itself has a king-size bed and a wet bar. In the morning, a continental breakfast will be served.

Entries into the contest can be found all around campus or available at the booth set up by Phi Sigma Pi.
