University e-mails annoy studentWith the advent of Web-based e-mail services, such as Hotmail and Yahoo, I have become accustomed to receiving so-called "spam" e-mails on a daily basis. These messages inquire me to "Make Your Own Fake ID's," "Receive a Real University Diploma," or my personal favorite, "Cum visit our site." A huge problem has started to form on our campus though. For some reason, I, along with other Purdue students, are receiving "spam" e-mails from University sources. I'm sure all of you received the PMO Christmas Show notices, along with the Debris yearbook callout. I have never given out my Purdue e-mail address to anyone, so how are these places getting it? Are they buying lists of e-mail addresses from the University? Are they going onto the Purdue directory and looking up thousands of names? I have no idea, but either way, we're getting spammed, and now it's from Purdue. What a pain! And all along I thought the anti-sweatshop movement was the most annoying thing at Purdue. Guess not.
