Captain Mike Francis of the West Lafayette Police
Department said that the department has information that could lead
police to the man who burglarized a West Lafayette church on Wednesday.
According to Francis, a male subject went into
the main area of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, located at 2224
Sacramento Dr., seeking employment. The subject spoke with employees
of the church inquiring about job information. He then left the main
building of the church, breaking contact with the church employees.
Witnesses later noticed the man exiting the southeast
corner of the church into an attached residence. Witnesses said that
while exiting the subject forced his way through the door.
The suspect was reported as leaving with an undisclosed
amount of cash.
"We have good suspect information and good vehicle
information," said Francis. "This will be helpful for the investigation."
The suspect was described as a white male in his
middle to late 30s. He said the male was approximately 5-foot-10 to
5-11 tall, weighing roughly 200 pounds. The man was described as having
shoulder length black or brown hair and a moustache.
Francis said his department received a call reporting
the burglary at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Francis said witnesses saw the man leave in a vehicle
described as an early '80s Dodge mini-van. The van was beige in color
with wood grain sides.
Several people witnessed the burglary and interviews
will be conducted again today, said Francis.
Francis said the church burglary does not seem
to be related to three robberies that took place on Saturday in Lafayette.
