Liberals should base arguments on factReading Joseph Nields letter to the editor on (Tuesday) made me, once again, happy to be a conservative. He, like all good liberal/socialists, countered accusations of communism and the (Worker Rights Consortium) with well, nothing. He voiced his support for human rights, yet never argued the merits; therefore I decided to go to the WRC homepage to determine the facts. Endorsement by four avowedly socialist organizations, among others, doesnt necessarily imply a socialist organization, but you know the old saying, "birds of a feather." What can be gleaned from a quick perusal is that the WRC could be the unions marketing department. There are a total of seven union representatives on the board and advisory council, as well as another four union endorsements. With diminishing membership stateside, they could be looking for money abroad. I then read the preliminary report on the Kukdong factory. While the conditions seemed horrible (I always consider the source), the report focused mostly on the rights of the workers to join a union outside their pre-existing one. Whether it was a WRC-affiliated union goes unmentioned. The WRC report stated, "(There is) the potential for irreparable harm to the well-being and safety of Kukdong workers if immediate action is not taken to reinstate workers who participated in the work stoppage;" I found that a touch dramatic, so I went to the Puebla State Web site and read, "Puebla State is one of the most important industrial centers of Mexico." Since industrial centers imply jobs, I doubt these workers will be jobless long. With liberals, one has to check all the facts. Nice words like "rights" and "diversity" are usually used to hide a lack of substance. To conclude, I raise my voice in unison with Mr. Costakis regarding "The Simpsons." Philip A. Anderson
