Track team displays strong performances
in most recent outing

Purdue women's track coach Ben Paolillo sees his team's most recent outing at the Butler Cannon Classic as a springboard heading into the Big Ten Championships.

"Overall, I am very pleased with how things are going," Paolillo said after the meet, which featured several strong performances.

Tina Johnson placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 19-11 1/2, setting a new school record. The previous mark was set in 1985 by Yvonne Netterville, with a distance of 19-10 3/4. Johnson missed the provisional qualifying standard by two centimeters.

Amy Spellmeyer upped her qualifying mark in the pole vault, placing first with a height of 12-11.5.

The 1600-meter relay team placed third with a time of 3:43.33, marking the sixth-best time in school history. The time set by the team of Angela Anoliefoh, Angela Kraft, Kim Jordan and Kristin Liphardt also leads the Big Ten.
