Board to discuss food costs

Members of the Graduate Student Association are pleased that the price of food in the Purdue Memorial Union has decreased; however, they are still concerned that the Union could do more.

Members of the association said the purpose of the Union is to provide an atmosphere of hospitality on campus and to serve students, which they said the Union is not doing well enough.

The association will meet again later this month to discuss the changes made so far and those that could be made in the future.

Bob Mindrum, director of the Purdue Memorial Union, said he is open to any concerns the students still have.

"We are not content that the effort is finished and are appreciative of the Union for meeting with us," said Adair Morse, co-president of the Graduate Student Association.

Jischke to explain plan for Purdue's future

President Martin Jischke plans to lay out the future of Purdue this morning at the Board of Trustees meeting at 10 a.m. in Stewart Center, Room 326.

"I’m going to try to talk about why strategic planning is important to the University," said Jischke.

"(I'm going to show) how we intend to proceed with (strategic planning) for the various Purdue campuses," Jischke said.

At the meeting Jischke will describe a timetable that he would use to develop the plans and he will ask the Board to approve a resolution that will allow him to begin the strategic planning process.

Jischke will also give the Board a report about fundraising at Purdue. "(I'll be telling them) some of the exciting things that happened in fundraising and the concerns I have regarding funding from the state," said Jischke.

Police find remains of drug lab

Indiana State Police found remains of what they believe to be a methamphetamine lab in Tippecanoe County.

A smoking propane tank and a five-gallon bucket were found at County Road 900 North, just west of State Road 43. The police believed these materials were the remains of a lab used to create the drug methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine, also known as meth, is often used to make drugs for illegal purposes, said Sgt. Shanna Kennedy.

Drug abusers use meth to feel the sensation of a fast, intense high that is extremely addictive, said Kennedy.

When found, the smoking remains of the suspected lab materials looked as though they were on the verge of being active or that they had been recently active, said Kennedy.
