Two Lafayette streets to close temporarily
due to installation of storm sewer system

From Staff Reports

The intersection of Underwood and Erie streets will be closed today as of 8 a.m. The Railroad Relocation contractor plans to tie-in a new storm sewer system in this intersection, prohibiting traffic from passing through. The road should re-open by 5 p.m.

Upcoming events for the Railroad Relocation project in Lafayette include the expansion of Erie Street so it will intersect with Greenbush Street. Greenbush will have to be closed down when this takes place, while the last of the Norfolk Southern trains leave Lafayette. The new portion of Erie Street will be built where those tracks are now.

The Railroad Relocation project has been dedicated to providing better traffic flow in Lafayette by removing many of the crossings where Norfolk Southern trains have traveled through in the past.
