Blended views create economy

Much has been made about socialism and capitalism in recent letters. What the defenders of both fail to recognize is that elements of BOTH appear in the United States. A large part of the economy is based on capitalism; however, the laws protecting the rights of individuals hearkens to socialism. Not all countries have such laws to protect people, relying only on the viciousness of capitalism. Does Social Security ring a bell? Disability benefits? Worker's compensation? Americans like to take the elements of philosophies that they agree with and use them. Our very government is founded on a mixture of philosophies: republic, democracy, and monarchy. Is anyone really surprised that it would be the same with our economic policy?
