Police arrest student on
charges of theft
From Staff Reports
Purdue police arrested a student on charges of
stealing cash, personal property and credit cards on Thursday afternoon.
Iniobong Bassey, a freshman in the Schools of Engineering,
allegedly stole more than $800 worth of goods from unlocked rooms in
Meredith and Earhart residence halls over a two-month period.
Ronald Fosnaugh, captain of special services for
the Purdue Police Department, said Bassey was arrested on counts of
theft from unlocked women's residence hall rooms. "That means she simply
walked into the rooms, saw stuff and took it," said Fosnaugh.
Fosnaugh said it's important for students to lock
their rooms and apartments even if they're leaving for a short period
of time.
According to a release, the stolen items were recovered
during a search of Bassey's room. She was taken to Tippecanoe County
Jail and is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash bond.
