Men's golf team hosts tournament
in Puerto Rico
The men's golf team began its spring season with
a 13th-place finish at The Gator in Gainesville, Fla. Feb. 10-11. They
hope to improve on that next week as they host the Puerto Rico Classic
in San Juan Sunday through Tuesday.
In Gainesville, the Boilermakers finished with
a three round total of 856, 25 strokes above par. The team shot 290
in the third round to go along with their first- and second-round scores
of 293 and 282 respectively.
Leading the way for the Boilermakers was sophomore
Chris Mayson, who finished six strokes over par at 216 (70-72-74). Junior
Lee Williamson finished one stroke behind Mayson, with a three-round
total of 217 (77-68-72).
Also representing the Boilermakers were freshman
Shiv Kapur, sophomore Peter Karmis and senior Chad Jones. Kapur shot
218 (76-71-71), eight strokes over par, shooting one over par in both
the second and third rounds. Karmis also finished eight strokes over
par at 218. Jones finished with a score of 222 (75-71-76).
The Boilermakers resume competition on Feb. 25,
when they host the Puerto Rico Classic held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
