TAKING IT UP A LEVEL: Purdue sophomore Kenneth Lowe drives to the basket during Purdue's 79-61 Tuesday night in Mackey Arena. The Boilers advanced to the third round of the NIT. They will play Alabama at 7 p.m. Friday in Mackey Arena. For related coverage, see Pages 18 & 20.

A ball change was all Purdue needed to get past Auburn 79-61 Tuesday night before 5,261 fans in Mackey Arena in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.

The Boilers (17-14) advance to the third round of the NIT to play Alabama (23-10) at 7 p.m. Friday in Mackey Arena. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. today. They are $9 for students and $18 for adults.

During the first-half, shooting for both teams was so horrendous that the players and coaches grew suspicious of the ball. At halftime, the officials checked it and found that it was lopsided and wreaking havoc on the ball's aerodynamics.
