| Student fans deserve better seats I would like to express my disappointment in the athletic department's lack of student appreciation. I figured that since Mackey Arena had been less than half full for the first two rounds of the NIT, the student section would be decent for the Alabama game. But even though I was the sixth person in line the morning tickets went on sale, I was told that the student section had been moved to the two sections directly behind the basket. And people wonder why attendance has been so low. Would it be such a crime to put the student section courtside for just one game? The regular season is the same story. Most of the lower arena is occupied by the senior boosters, who give large sums of money to "support the team." I appreciate the boosters' loyalty, but how about standing up and being loud to support the team? Does it bother anyone else that money is obviously more important than enthusiasm and energy? Duke's Cameron Crazies are students, not boosters, and they don't sit in the upper arena behind the basket. Purdue is an educational institution for students. The basketball team is comprised of students. Tuition is paid by students. But most of Mackey's best seats are sold to old people. Kyle Sporre Senior, Schools of Engineering |
