Softball team earns two wins despite canceled invitational

Although officials canceled Sunday's action for the Purdue softball team's Boilermaker Invitational, the team was able to get two wins Saturday.

Purdue (22-8-1) began the day with a 3-0 win over Loyola (Chicago) in which sophomore first baseman Heidi Foster hit a two-run home run. Freshman Sara Hall got the other RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Junior Meagan Dooley (6-2) took the win with four innings pitched. She allowed four hits, no runs and no walks while striking out two.

Sophomore Leighann Burke came in for her third save of the year and allowed one hit in two innings pitched. She also struck out two, allowed no runs and walked no one.

The Boilermakers tallied 10 hits and four RBI en route to a 4-1 victory over Butler. Sophomore third baseman Jesse Jones went 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI.

Burke (8-4) took the win, pitching five innings, allowing two hits and one run and striking out six. Junior Nicole Crouse finished the game allowing one hit and striking out three.
