Anti-cheering fans upsets
student
There have been many letters written to the editor
complaining about the crowd support at Mackey Arena during the basketball
games. Gene Keady has often said that we need to get a lot of students
to the game to cheer loud for the players.
I have finally found out why no one cheers. I went
to the men's NIT game on March 20, and I was threatened numerous times
to be thrown out of the game. This old couple who was sitting in front
of me in the student section turned around and yelled at me for standing
up, clapping and yelling for our Boilers. They opposed the phrase, "Boo...
you suck" and again threatened to have me kicked out.
When I was leaving the game, the usher came down
and expressed his sorrow for having me sit behind them and cheering
for the team. I surely must be mistaken because I thought the point
of an audience was to cheer on the team in attempt to get a victory.
Granted, the couple was probably a member of the John Purdue Club, but
I was willing to start a "We Paid Your Way" cheer for the players, but
I do not think that they would have liked that one either. So I guess
all students just need to sit down and never cheer so that we can please
the John Purdue Club members or rather the couple that was sitting in
front of me.
