Ice hockey surpasses basketball
Ice hockey is by far a superior sport to what the
general idiocy, errr ... public, calls basketball. First off, while
both have five players competing at once, there are no power plays in
basketball. Whats up with that?
Also, there is no physical contact in basketball.
Players should be able to assert their dominance in this fashion. Hockey
allows players to compete on all levels including one-on-one bouts of
physical prowess. Basketball is the only major competitive team sport
where there is no form of allowable goaltending. Even baseball and football
have their equivalents. In fact, basketball is the only sport where
goaltending is specifically disallowed. And whats up with dunking?
Anyone can just jump. In hockey, on a breakaway, you still need to have
sufficient skills to be able to beat the goaltender. There is no way
in which you should miss a breakaway in basketball. Also, the score
is incredibly inflated in basketball. There is simply way too much scoring
to be able to get excited.
In hockey, every point must be earned with sweat,
skills and blood. I must face the fact that basketball will continue
to exist on this campus, but we should at least have a hockey team for
those of us who enjoy a real man's (or woman's) sport.
