University should not lower
standards
This is in response to Jonathan Knights Exponent
letter on March 21 that Purdue should welcome everyone.
I don't think I could possibly disagree more with
your letter. Maybe if you threw in a sentence that says our basketball
team is No. 1 or something like that, I suppose I could.
The last time I checked, the whole point of coming
to college was to prepare for the future. I realize that there are going
to be those who aren't concerned about their future and just want to
have fun all the time and that is fine but to think that Purdue should
try to increase the number of these people by lowering standards is
just hilarious. I give props to Purdue for raising the standards. Welcoming
everyone like you are promoting does nothing but lower the image of
the University and hurt recruiting for people who actually care about
their future.
It's bad enough that when I drive to Chauncey to
grab a bite to eat, I have to wait for a parking spot because the lot
is filled with the cars of people who don't give a crap about their
future but are here for the fun. Thats the last thing Purdue needs
to do is increase the number of those people.
On a side note, you are not helping the School
of Liberal Arts in its battle for respect with shared opinions like
yours. Well, that is all. I am back to studying and preparing to subjugate
the labor of everyone beneath me.
