Purdue recruits four soccer
players
The Purdue women's soccer team is not losing a
single member to graduation, but Coach Rob Klatte is continuing to add
to the team.
Klatte recently announced the signing of four high
school seniors to national letters of intent.
Lori Arnold, Kim Comisar, Meghan Dybvig and Lauren
Sesselman will join the Boilermakers this fall.
"This class will be a very athletic class," Klatte
said. "Athleticism will be a key to assist our continual climb in the
Big Ten and nationally."
Last season Purdue went 12-6-1, including 5-5-1
in the Big Ten. It was the first time in the team's three-year history
that it had more wins than losses.
The Boilers almost qualified for the NCAA tournament.
Purdue tied Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament,
but the Badgers won on penalty.
Klatte hopes Arnold, Comisar, Dybvig and Sesselman
will help get the Boilers deeper into the postseason.
Lori Arnold
Arnold attends Washington (Ind.) High School and
holds numerous athletic and academic honors. Most notably, she was all-state
honorable mention in 1999 and was the offensive MVP of the Indiana Soccer
Camp in 2000.
In club play, her team was the State Cup runner-up
in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The forward/outside midfielder was also recruited
by Evansville, Indiana, Ball State and Xavier.
She was the varsity basketball MVP for 1999-00,
academic All-State and was the captain of her high school team in 2000.
Kim Comisar
Comisar comes to West Lafayette from Westchester,
Ohio, where she attends Lakota West High School. Also projected to play
forward or outside midfielder, Comisar was a member of the Ohio state
championship team her junior year and was named to both the Ohio All-State
third team and the All-City team her senior year. She also is a four-year
varsity letterwinner, an all-conference honorable mention for her junior
year, a first team all-conference and first team all-county selection
and will graduate as the Lakota West all-time assists leader. In her
spare time, Comisar is an assistant coach trainer with the U-9 Select
girls club team in Columbus, Ohio. Also recruited by Valparaiso, Comisar
plans to major in kinesiology.
Meghan Dybvig
Dybvig attends Burnsville (Minn.) High School and
will play either midfielder or defender positions.
As a soccer player, she was voted co-captain of
both her high school and club teams and has been a member of the state
team in the Minnesota Olympic Development Program. Dybvig was also recruited
by Creighton, Marquette, Iowa and Stanford.
"The fit between Purdue and myself just felt right,"
said Dybvig. "The campus was beautiful, I liked the people and I wanted
to go to a bigger school. I'm very excited to play and am willing to
play anywhere. I really want to fit in and work hard to be part of the
team."
Lauren Sesselman
Sesselman is from Green Bay, Wis., where she attends
Notre Dame Academy.
Her team was ranked fourth in the state in 1999
and also reached the state semifinals. Sesselman is also the career
and single-season record holder at Notre Dame for both goals and assists.
In the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program, Sesselman has participated
for two years and was a member of the FC-Milwaukee National state championship
team. Wisconsin and Marquette also recruited her.
"I'm very excited to play at Purdue," said Sesselman.
"Early on, in fifth grade, I made the commitment to play and put a lot
of effort into soccer.
"It makes me very happy to continue playing the
sport I love at a higher level and competition."
