SIGNING OFF: Purdue senior Katie Douglas signs an autograph for a young fan after the women's basketball team arrived at the Purdue Airport Monday afternoon.

Approximately 120 fans showed up at the Purdue Airport to give the national runner-up Purdue women's basketball team another round of cheers.

"We really didn't expect that anybody would be here," guard Kelly Komara said after getting off the plane at approximately 1:40 p.m. Monday.

"It's a nice gesture and it sort of lets us know that they appreciate us and the season that we had."

Purdue's season ended with a 68-66 loss to Notre Dame in Sunday night's NCAA title game in St. Louis. The Boilers finished 31-7.

INTO THE NIGHT: Purdue students (top) take part in the revelries Sunday night after the women's basketball NCAA championship game. Area police and fire units (bottom) walk down the street to keep students to the side.

President Martin Jischke is disappointed with the student body.

Jischke said he is unhappy with those who were involved in the demonstrations and bad behavior of Sunday night.

"I think it reflects poorly on them and on our University," said Jischke.

He said it was especially sad considering the outcome of the women's basketball season. "It's particularly disappointing in the aftermath of the incredible season our women's basketball team had … to distract and detract from that accomplishment," said Jischke.

Student body elects new president, vice president

Brenda Shea and Matt Newton

With less than 10 percent of the student body voting, Brenda Shea and Matt Newton won the Purdue Student Government elections.

Shea, a junior in the School of Liberal Arts, will become the new student body president and Newton, a junior in the Schools of Engineering, will become the new student body vice president.

"I’m just thrilled," said Shea. "We ran a clean campaign and we put in a lot of hard work. A lot of people helped, people we will never be able to thank for all their help."
