Students' interests matter to CouncilmanWest Lafayette City Councilman and recent Purdue graduate Brad Windler, is the best friend Purdue students have in the policy-making issues in West Lafayette. I had a chance to briefly discuss with him this evening, the renters' inspection ordinance now up for debate before the council. While I am not a renter, I know many that are, and many that could not afford already inflated rent prices. This ordinance would most definitely pass on higher rent to already cash-strapped and price-gouged Purdue students. For this reason, a resolution expressing displeasure with the proposed ordinance was passed by PSG recently. Brad Windler is the main opponent of this proposal, and I applaud him for it. This merely continues a trend for Mr. Windler, who I first met at last semester's College Democrats callout. Through his recent campaign for state representative and his actions right here in West Lafayette, he has always kept the interests of Purdue students at the top of his list. If every Purdue student who was registered had gotten out to vote for either Mr. Windler or whomever they agreed with, the turnout certainly would have been phenomenal. As was illustrated by the 2000 presidential election, it is of utmost importance that everyone votes, and this is the single greatest tool Purdue students have when dealing with West Lafayette and it's residents. We have a strong voice. Let's use it in the future. Joseph Nield |
