Music mixes miss some artists, songs

The "Music To Your Ears" feature in the March 29 Exponent was a decent mixed tape primer. However, I'd like to point out some artists I feel were overlooked.

First of all, no downtrodden-me mix is complete without tracks from The Cure ["Disintegration" is a good place to start], The Smiths and Dead Can Dance. Also, check out the "sadcore" section of your favorite local music dealer; Red House Painters, American Music Club, Mark Eitzel and Tindersticks propel me through many a dark night on campus. However, offering up Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morrisette as depressing music is like saying Sylvia Plath was a motivational speaker. Don't make me laugh.

Secondly, the omission of Enigma's "MCMXC A.D." from the "Tunes for Intimacy" list is absolutely criminal. I call upon the writers involved in the information gathering for this piece to break up with their significant others immediately and find new ones with better taste in music. I also challenge anyone to come up with a better selection for a, uh, "lazy day afternoon." Yeah, that's a nice euphemism for it. "Lazy."

Also, I demand that the writer who came up with the phrase "perfect for mid-afternoon, summertime coitus" to describe Gomez be promoted to editor-in-chief — or, at the very least, editor-in-charge-of-cool — immediately. Pure genius!

Finally, everybody knows that the perfect way to get a party rockin' is to drop Paul Oakenfold, Christopher Lawrence, Seb Fontaine or one of the many purveyors of "Abercrombie & Fitch trance" on the sound system. Who let the dogs out, indeed?
