| Editor's Note: We have reached our limit of 10 letters related to the Sunday night campus disturbances (aka riots). Students behavior earns bad seatsEvery year students complain about not having good seats in Mackey Arena for men's basketball games, and this year has probably been the worst year since I've been here. However, I feel students don't have a good argument based on this year's attendance. Just two years ago, every game was sold out and nearly packed to the rafters. Last year attendance declined and this year even more. The "fogies" that sit in the lower sections are always there cheering on the Boilers, even for the women's games. These people deserve the seats they get based on their attendance and respect for the players. The student section has been unusually harsh this year and disrespectful. The students really enjoy shouting "left, right, sit-down" when an opposing player fouls out. I have no problem with this as it is fun to do and happens at many colleges around the country. However, to do this when our players are on the line and shooting free throws shows a complete disrespect for our players. Adam Wetzel was most likely fazed by our fans screaming sit down right when he released the ball. In regards to the letter in the March 26 Exponent, the students have always had seats in the lower bowl, right next to the tunnel yet choose not to attend. The Illinois game here appeared to have more Illinois students than Purdue students. Where is the loyalty? And people wonder why students don't get more lower bowl seats. Kyle Vester |
