University Day offers chance
to help improve campus

Students looking to volunteer their time to help
make the University a more attractive place will have the opportunity
to do so on Thursday when Purdue hosts its sixth annual University Day.
Activities will include spreading mulch, planting
flowers, sweeping the sidewalks and various other activities designed
to help clean up the campus. For students looking for motivation to
volunteer, Dana Boynak, a junior in the School of Technology, offers
these reasons.
"We are doing this to help spruce up the campus
for spring and Mother's Weekend," Boynak said. "Also, the first 300
students to work for an hour receive a free T-shirt."
Purdue Student Government sponsors this event.
PSG President-elect Brenda Shea sees it as an opportunity for students
to enjoy the weather and do a good deed for the campus after a weekend
of destruction.
"This is a good opportunity for students from various
backgrounds to come together and use their efforts to help make campus
a more beautiful place," Shea said. "It doesn't take very much time
out of the day to help. Also, it is an excuse to take advantage of the
good weather that we have been enjoying."
All students are welcome to donate their time for
this event. Typically, the turnout is a diverse mix of students and
faculty. T-shirts will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Students looking to volunteer should report to
one of 10 stations across campus between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to receive
a University Day assignment. Stations will be located at Memorial Mall,
Hicks Undergraduate Library, Agricultural Administration Building, Lilly
Hall of Life Sciences, Hansen Life Sciences Research Building, Grissom
Hall, Hovde Hall, the Armory, the Psychological Sciences Building and
at Founders Park.
