Wrestler wins championship
Purdue wrestler Chris Fleeger, who redshirted this
season, competed at the University Duals in Evanston, Ill., last weekend
and won the 128-pound weight class.
The competition included wrestlers from the collegiate
and international level including current and former All-Americans.
"It was an outstanding performance from a
great competitor," Purdue coach Jessie Reyes said. "He beat
some great competition. He didnt just win his matches; he dominated
his matches."
On the road to his championship, Fleeger beat five
very proven wrestlers. He picked up an 8-2 victory over Iowa States
Zach Roberson in the first round. Roberson was ranked as high as 10th
in the nation at 141 pounds this season. Fleeger picked up a 10-1 over
Oregon States Mike Delaney and an 8-1 victory over Nebraskas
Ty Miller. In the championship match, Fleeger beat Luke Eustice of Iowa
by major decision, 13-4.
