Wrestler wins championship

Purdue wrestler Chris Fleeger, who redshirted this season, competed at the University Duals in Evanston, Ill., last weekend and won the 128-pound weight class.

The competition included wrestlers from the collegiate and international level including current and former All-Americans.

"It was an outstanding performance from a great competitor," Purdue coach Jessie Reyes said. "He beat some great competition. He didn’t just win his matches; he dominated his matches."

On the road to his championship, Fleeger beat five very proven wrestlers. He picked up an 8-2 victory over Iowa State’s Zach Roberson in the first round. Roberson was ranked as high as 10th in the nation at 141 pounds this season. Fleeger picked up a 10-1 over Oregon State’s Mike Delaney and an 8-1 victory over Nebraska’s Ty Miller. In the championship match, Fleeger beat Luke Eustice of Iowa by major decision, 13-4.
