Purdue Open competitor wins
award for victories
Senior Chris Brown has been chosen as the Big Ten
athlete of the week following his performances in the shot put and hammer
throw at last weekend's Purdue Open.
"This is a really nice honor," Brown said. "I know
there are plenty of great athletes in the conference that could have
received this recognition. I am glad I was recognized in this way."
Men's track coach Mike Poehlein was pleased with
the honor.
"Chris is a very skilled athlete," Poehlein said.
"He takes great pride in his sport and has a tremendous work ethic.
I am elated he will receive this honor."
Brown won the hammer throw and the shot put at
the Purdue Open with NCAA provisional qualifying marks. He hurled the
shot put 59 feet and had a throw of 213-1 in the hammer throw.
The native of Portland, Conn., was chosen as the
Purdue athlete of the month for February after outstanding performances
throughout the month.
