Advertisements don't belong on Hello Walk plaquesToday we attempted to pull tape off the Hello Walk plaques left there by people who stick advertisements to the ground. Not only do these advertisements clutter campus, they give campus a dirty look when tape is left all over the sidewalks. The people who use this advertisement technique should be respectful of University property and realize that they are also responsible for the aftermath. In particular, we are concerned for the Hello Walk plaques. These three plaques are part of an important tradition to the University and should be respected. Started over a century ago, in 1893, the Hello Walk was originally located at the southwestern edge of the Memorial Mall. It is now located in the middle of Memorial Mall and it is a tradition to say hello to everyone you pass. Leaving or putting tape on these plaques is disrespectful and a sign of disregard to this long-standing tradition. The condition of the plaques is a concern to many people and these people ask that tape not be used on them, please. Amanda Juntunen Carrie Schmitz |
