Fans shouldn't focus on NASCAR driver's deathThis letter is in response to the letter written by Mike Swisher in the Exponent on March 20. I cannot believe that you put Dale Earnhardt up on such a pedestal. He knew what could possibly happen to him when he started racing; any of us who race know that things can happen and we have no control over it. Also, I don't see why you would begin not believing in Christ over this. His time had come. I would be praying to God that Earnhardt ended up in a better place. Another thing that I have been noticing is how everyone is making such a big deal over the Earnhardt accident. As I said before, it can happen to anyone of those guys out there and I don't understand why his death is such a bigger deal than that of other drivers. When Adam Petty died last year, no one made a big deal about that, or what about Kenny Irwin Jr., or Davey Allison? They were both young drivers at the start of their careers. You don't see any announcers having a silent 45th lap to honor Adam Petty like they do for Earnhardt on the 3rd lap of every race. I think people need to look at how much they are worshipping Earnhardt. L. Bryce Whitson Jr. |
