Team earns seventh place
after second day of
tournament
The Purdue women's golf team remained in seventh
place after day two (Saturday) of the Bryan National Collegiate in Brown
Summins, N.C.
"We had good weather (Saturday), and shot a good
solid round under 300," assistant head coach Rayma Fisher said. "We
are looking forward to improving again (Sunday) to finish off strong."
Three Purdue golfers are tied for the team lead.
Kari Damron, Andrea Makauskas and Caroline Laurens are tied at 151,
26th overall. Damron shot a one over par 73 for round two, low score
for the Boilermakers of round two and of the tournament thus far.
Makauskas shot a 76 and Laurens shot a 74, improving
three strokes from her first round total. Freshman Beth Hermes is tied
for 38th overall with a total of 154. Hermes shot a 75 for day two,
four strokes better than her first round score. Heather Zielinski took
one stroke off her first round score, shooting a 78 in the second round.
The Boilermakers conclude play at the Bryan National
today with third round play. They are 30 strokes behind leader Duke,
and just six strokes behind fourth-place Tennessee. Purdue leads Big
Ten rival Penn State by 15 strokes.
The Champions Course at Bryan Park was opened for
play in 1990. It has received several honors and awards including being
listed in America's Best Places You Can Play, ranked 3rd in the state
of North Carolina. It has also received a four-star rating and was honored
as a Great Value 1994-95 and 1996-97 according to Golf Digest.
