Team performs well, fails
to win
The women's track and field team concluded action
at the Big Blue Classic hosted by Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
"This track meet allowed many of our athletes the
opportunity to participate," coach Ben Paolillo said. "Although we did
not have the depth to win the meet, we were able to get in some excellent
performances."
Katie Rorem led the Boilermakers to a sweep of
the pole vault with a mark of 11-11.75. Marianne Maj and Simona Kovacic
placed second and third, respectively.
Kristen Truscott was second in the high jump with
a mark of 5-6. Carrie Long was fourth in the event with a personal best
mark of 5-4.25.
T'Nita Waters was third in both the 100- and 200-meter
dashes. She joined Jan Eichenauer, Janelle Johnson and Shannon Kelly
to place fourth in the 400 relay. Meghan McNeely, Jodi Keerklaan, Julie
Sennot and Barbara Wenger came together for a third place finish in
the 1600 relay.
Keerklaan was fourth in the 800 and placed fifth
in the 400. Wenger was fourth in the 1,500 and McNeely placed sixth
in the 400.
Johnson picked up third- and fourth-place finishes
in the triple and long jump. Kristin Gellar was sixth in the triple
jump. Tiffany Britten placed fifth in the shot put.
On Friday, Wenger won the 3,000 steeplechase, a
newly instituted NCAA event, with a time of 10:55.81. Kim Snyder won
the 10,000 in 37:30.38 for the 15th best time in school history. Jaclyn
