Purdue shouldn't punish revelers

I understand that Purdue is a place of "higher learning," but if this is so, then why are TAs that can barely speak English hired, professors that repeatedly receive bad evaluations re-signed to contracts keeping them here and classes that are taught so poorly that a 50 percent is an average grade?

This isn’t true for the whole University and there are some exceptional professors and TAs out there, but I have "learned" to accept these things and accept the fact that I’ll be hired because I have taught myself for four years. What really disgusts me is the recent punishment and attempt to punish the innocent people involved in last Sunday’s festivities. Pictures are currently being posted of the bystanders on the police Web site in an attempt to punish them. These people were the ones who were merely standing by watching and are now being hunted down for supposedly encouraging other people to participate in the rioting, but weren’t actually starting the fires or adding to them. This is absolutely ridiculous!

If the University calls in helicopters and the National Guard, isn’t the University also encouraging people to riot? Hasn’t the University been inciting this type of behavior by not listening to the students' complaints and try to remedy them, especially in academics? I say that if you know one of the people in the pictures that you don’t turn them in, and if Purdue continues to operate in the same fashion that students riot every weekend.
