Five funny Purdue students will perform as the
opening act for "Saturday Night Live" comedian Darrell Hammond as a
part of ComedyLab's College Comic Attack Tour.
Hammond, who is best known for impersonating former
president Bill Clinton on "Saturday Night Live," will perform at 8 p.m.
April 19 in Loeb playhouse.
Hammond will perform while Nelly will be speakin'
country grammar at 7 p.m. at the Elliott Hall of Music. As of Tuesday,
there were still about 350 tickets remaining for Nelly's performance.
Tickets for the comedy performance can be purchased
starting Monday at the Purdue Student Union Board office in the Purdue
Memorial Union, Room 268, for $5 for students and $10 for the public.
Up to five students will perform as Hammond's opening
act. Following their performances, the audience will vote for the winner,
who will receive a trophy and T-shirt and be proclaimed the funniest
person on the Purdue campus.
Students interested in participating must register
by Monday by calling 800-843-2536.
Sara Solloway, program director for the Purdue
Student Union Board, who is bringing the ComedyLab tour to campus said
that, financially, the show was a good deal for the University.
"The sponsors really helped pay for his honorarium,
which is usually $25,000; we did not pay anything near that," she said.
"We couldn't have afforded it without all the sponsors.
On the day of Hammond's performance, ComedyLab
and its tour partners will present an activity village from 11 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on Memorial Mall. The event will include comedy activities,
contests and sponsor giveaways. Activities will move to Stewart Center
in the event of rain.
Salon Selectives will sponsor the "Hairlarious
Highlights Awards," where students will be asked to share their funniest
"bad hair day" stories on digital video. The 25 winning stories, one
from each campus on the tour, will be posted on http://www.thecomedylab.com/hairlarious.
Each campus winner will receive a year's supply of Salon Selectives
products. One national winner will be awarded a trip for two to Paris,
including a spa and salon getaway.
"The Grand Alternative is going on that week and
this is just another cool alcohol-free event that students can participate
in," Solloway said.
The Purdue event is sponsored by Pontiac Sunfire,
College Television Network, Salon Selectives, Coty Rimmel London and
the Purdue Student Union Board.
