Professors merit more appreciation

As my career at Purdue comes to an end, I have noticed many things about the students that attend this great institution. For the most part they are hard working and diligent. However, a lot of them do not show respect to the professors and teaching assistants.

Class ends at 20 past the hour. Not 15 past or 17 past, but 20 past. Don't pack your books, talk to your neighbor about what is being served for lunch or zip your coat while the teacher is still talking. This is rude and very distracting.

Remember way back in high school when the teacher would say, "The bell doesn't dismiss you, I dismiss you"? Even though we are not dismissed by a bell here, we should all wait until the professor or TA says that he or she is done to pack up and leave.
