Campus
University Senate to hold final meeting

By Dave Stephens
Assistant Campus Editor

President Jischke is expected to discuss Purdue’s part of the state's budget and possibly the construction of fences around two of Purdue’s fountains during today’s University Senate meeting.

This senate meeting, which is the final one of the semester, is expected to be short since the only bill for action requires selecting members for the Steering and Nomination committees.

The Steering Committee is responsible for the origination and distribution of the agenda for each meeting of the University Senate. The committee is also responsible for receiving communication from faculty and directing that communication to the appropriate senate committee or officer.

The Nomination Committee’s major task is making nominations for senate and University committees.

Stuart Offenbach, professor of physiological sciences, said the meeting will be one of the shorter meetings of the semester, but that the nominations are important.

The nominees for the steering committee are Wanda Fox, an associate professor in the School of Education, John Graveel, a professor in the School of Agriculture, Lee Weith, a professor in the School of Science and Lisa Xu, an associate professor in the Schools of Engineering.

The nominees for the Nomination Committee include Christopher Hoffman, a professor in the School of Science, Craig Miller, a professor in the School of Technology, Glenn Sparks, a professor in the School of Liberal Arts and John Zimbrick, a professor in the School of Health Sciences.

Offenbach also said the Steering Committee has received a new chair, Joseph Camp, a professor of biological sciences at Purdue North Central.

"All of the committees are in the process of electing new chairs," said Offenbach. "Some because people have stepped down, but also because this is when new chairs are elected."

Today’s University Senate meeting will not take place in room 302 of Stewart Center as usual, but will meet in room 218 of Stewart Center.
