Track team wins Ohio invitational

The women's track team won the Miami (Ohio) Invitational this weekend in Oxford, Ohio.

The Boilermakers scored 176 points to top the host school (171) and Cincinnati (149.50).

"We are very excited about the win," coach Ben Paolillo said. "It was a bit of a surprise because we did not have a lot of depth this weekend."

The field event participants scored many of the Boilermakers' points. Serene Ross won both the hammer and javelin throw. She threw the javelin 150-8 and the hammer 177-7. Lisa Davis had a personal best in the discus throw with a mark of 138-9.

Kristen Truscott won the high jump with a mark of 5-7. In the pole vault, Purdue had athletes finish in the second through fourth positions. Meg McKenzie was second with a jump of 11-6 3/4. Simona Kovacic was third with the same mark. Katie Rorem placed fourth with a mark of 11-6 1/4.

Kim Jordan was second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 15.65 seconds. T'Nita Waters was third in the 200 with a time of 24.98 seconds.
