Alumni to celebrate Gala Week

Purdue alumni will be on campus this weekend for a series of Purdue events and reunions in association with Gala Week and the Purdue Alumni Association.

Gala Week headquarters will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday in Room 118 of the Purdue Memorial Union. For registration and ticket information, call 494-5175 or 1-800-414-1541.

Friday's events

Purdue Bands will feature twilight concert series — Jazz on the Hill - at 5:30 p.m. at the Slayter Center. This free show features the Purdue Alumni Jazz Band and American Music Review reunion.

The Center for Lifelong Learning Expo will feature exhibits from 3 to 5 p.m. at LaPosada West in the Union. There will be exhibits on the new Lifetime University program as well as other events.

Saturday's events

A Salute to Purdue — Then and Now from 9 to 11 a.m. will be held in the Materials and Electrical Engineering Building atrium. There will be a display of old instruments and photos and a tour of the facilities.

The annual class will parade to John Purdue's grave at 10:45 a.m. The parade will begin in the area between the Union and Stewart Center and is traditionally led by the oldest attending graduate. The All-American Marching Band, Purdue Pete and the Boilermaker Special will also attend.

After the parade, the class of 1951 will dedicate the Hello Walk, which the class raised the funds to renovate.

Boilermaker Bingo will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Union's main lounge.

The 127th Founders Day Reception begins at 4:45 p.m. in the main lounges of the Union and a banquet will follow at 6 p.m. in the Union's North and South ballrooms. The banquet will feature comments by President Martin Jischke, entertainment by the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and alumni awards. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased today in Room 118 of the Union. A big-band song and dance program will follow the banquet.

Sunday's events

The Loyalty Brunch will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Union's North Ballroom. There will be a presentation of loyalty certificates and golden anniversary certificates by Jischke to members of the class of 1950. Tickets are $17 and are available at the Gala Week Headquarters. Reservations are required.
