Purdue president Martin Jischke participated in his first Grand Prix parade as Grand Marshal this past Saturday, commencing Purdues 44th annual Grand Prix race.
The parade began in front of Ross-Ade Stadium and proceeded down Intramural Drive to Third Street, then University Street and concluded with a lap around the Grand Prix track. Jischke led the parade in the first car with his wife Patty. They were all smiles and threw candy treats to parade onlookers.
Following the Jischkes in the parade were Chief Starter Duane Sweeney; Grand Prix president Cory Riggs; Outstanding Service Award winner Brent Bible; members of the senior board; Grand Prix student ambassadors; the Boilermaker Special; the winners of the car show; the bed race winners, the Mismatched Misfits; and the Purdue Cheerleaders, who were atop a fire engine doing Boiler cheers.
Purdue alumnus Bob Brown, who graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 1951, participated in the parade aboard the Boilermaker Special. Brown is a member of the President Council and raises money for Purdue on the West Coast. This was the first time Brown attended the parade, and he said he was excited to be back at Purdue.
"President Jischke was in high spirits," said Brown. "He did a fine job of leading the parade."
