Traffic consultants seek
input on plan

The University is looking for input from students,
faculty, staff and the community about the future of traffic and parking
around Purdue.
Physical Facilities is hosting an open forum at
7 p.m. on Wednesday in Stewart Center, Room 206, to discuss these issues
and offer those in the Purdue community the chance to give feedback
on possible solutions that will be presented.
Tom Schmenk, director of facilities planning and
construction, said traffic consultants from Pflum, Kalusmeier and Gehrum
will be at the meeting to present a traffic and parking study they've
been working on for the past few months. He said the firm has looked
at various problems that need to be solved in both the short and long
term.
"They'll give a presentation of their findings
and a possible solution," said Schmenk. "They'll ask for comments, criticism,
input and suggestions."
Schmenk said the University is essentially looking
for user input. "The consultants are 'experts' in their field but they
still need feedback to see if what they're suggesting makes sense from
the user standpoint," he said.
In the coming years there will be changes to area
roads and driving patterns and this forum allows people to give their
advice before any permanent changes are completed.
Schmenk said these changes may include adding more
one-way streets, changing the direction of some streets, reconstructing
intersections and eliminating some traffic lights. Those at the meeting
will also discuss future parking lots and parking garages.
This forum is open for anyone in the public to
attend.
