Following the Student Court's decision to repeal
the Student Senate's rescission of the referendum to restructure the
Purdue Student Government, PSG is spending the final weeks of the semester
planning the transition from the old constitution to the new one.
Brenda Shea, student body president-elect, and
Matt Newton, student body vice president-elect, have selected their
executive board and a temporary senate has been put into place.
The temporary Student Senate will have two temporary
senators from each of the represented bodies. Shea said all temporary
senators will be put into place by the start of the next school year.
"I think it will be a good opportunity to offer
smooth transition between the two forms of representation until things
get back into full swing in October," said Hans Lee, PSG senator.
He said the temporary senate will try the new constitution
and see what works and what does not work.
Shea said the senate will address any important
issues that arise before the new senate is in place.
The new senate will be decided after PSG holds
its Student Senate elections in October, where students will be able
to vote for senators that will serve for the rest of the school year.
Kyle Bymaster, PSG senator, said the temporary
senate will allow the new senators to continue the procedures of PSG
rather than starting over abruptly.
"There are still issues for the students that need
to be addressed," said Shea.
Jessica Cavallo, student body secretary, said the
remaining PSG members are spending the last weeks of the semester training
the new executive board members and senators.
She said if any students still have concerns they
should stop by the PSG office located in Stewart Center, Room G6.
"We're trying to change PSG so the student's input
does matter because this is their organization," she said.
