University ignores student interestsI know everyone has seen and heard about Purdue planning to place fencing around both campus fountains. Like many of you, I am utterly outraged. So many things are changing on campus. Everywhere I turn new construction sites are forming, taking away large recreational areas. Who comes up with some of these construction projects, and are the students ever asked what they think? No, they are told to grin and bear it. For some reason, Purdue does not have the life of its students in mind. The University is not worried about those of us who actually live here and help give those big fat paychecks to the higher-up officials. The University's main goal is to please the alumni and guests. No offense, but without the students, this campus would cease to exist. As I see it, I am here to get an education, and I would like to get what I pay for. I do not ask for much. I want to know why the fountains were not such a big problem before? In my estimation, there was probably a single person who got injured during a "fountain run," and thus the rest of us are going to lose a long-standing tradition of Purdue. Is this fair? No! I urge everyone to write to PSG and other major decision-making bodies and voice your opinion. When there are around 37,000 of us, the University has to listen. Help me in my fight to take back our campus before it becomes a prison instead of our home. Remember, however, that violence is not the way to accomplish this. Lets show the rest of the country that we do have school pride. Lets get out there and take action. Zachary Peachy Sophomore, School of Technology |
