Purdue should address other dangers

I am really pleased to know how concerned the Purdue administration is about the well being of their students, with the decision to fence off the fountains. I find this shows great strides in Purdue's efforts to cut back on the dangers this campus holds. But I feel there is much more to be done. Hopefully Purdue officials will see my letter and feel compelled to remove or take strong actions against the following dangers on our campus.

First off, while Purdue is fencing two fountains on campus there still is the fountain in Memorial Mall, right by University Hall that needs a fence. Many small children, freshman, or campus visitors could harm themselves on it, causing Purdue to look bad (forget about the riots).

Secondly, winter here is deadly. I honestly believe de-icer and salt does not exist here. Thirdly, the bus drivers are a great liability to our campus, driving around like maniacs, putting everyone’s lives at risk.

Forget about trying to cross State Street, when at any given moment you could get hit. Another problem that I hope Purdue will work on is the squirrel infestation.

With rabid squirrels roaming campus, preying on the innocent and unsuspecting student, I am surprised we are brave enough to go to class. And the last danger this campus has that desperately needs to be fixed is the foul stench coming from the Wabash every spring. I am sure the toxins that the Wabash pollutes the air with are not good for the lungs or general health.

With these dangers and liabilities now drawn to Purdue's

attention, I hope the administration will be as concerned with these dangers and liabilities as they are with stopping a Purdue tradition: the fountain run.
