Purdue students will have the opportunity to witness
creativity Saturday, whether it is through music or words as violinist
Chee-Yun and poet Aaren Perry will be giving presentations.
Pro Vitamin Violinist
Chee-Yun is a violinist from Korea, where she has
been honored with the "Nan Pa," the countrys highest
musical honor. She will be performing at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Long
Center.
"I dont mind how many people are in
the audience or how big the city is," says Chee-Yun. "I love
performing no matter what."
Performing over 80 times each year, Chee-Yun still
finds time to take care of herself. She is a model for Pantene Pro Vitamin
conditioner. When the company asked her, Chee-Yun was just excited at
the thought of receiving a lifetime supply of the product.
This good attitude is what makes her one of the
most personal performers, said Genevieve Spielberg, publicist for Chee-Yun.
Poet or Bodyguard?
Perry, a poet, human rights observer, teacher and
masseuse, will be presenting a poetry working shop for general audiences,
10:30a.m. and a Poetry reading at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tippecanoe
County Public Library.
Perry says he gets many of the ideas for his work
from all of the places he has visited, including Guatemala, where he
acted as an American non-violent escort in the 80s for families
of "the disappeared," or those people who had been abducted
or murdered by the military.
Because of Perrys many experiences, Ian McKinney,
Young Adult Librarian for the library, said he would extend Perrys
visit to more people such as the Purdue community who would find the
experience enjoyable.
"Its like going to the circus expect
its with words," Perry said.
