When they're on a hitting streak, some players
eat the same meal each day; others have the same routine before each
game.
Purdue second baseman David Blomberg has just one
superstition.
"I guess my superstition is not to be superstitious
because I've never really believed in all that stuff," said Blomberg.
Blomberg doubled in the seventh inning of Purdue's
6-5 loss to Xavier Wednesday at home to extend his hitting streak to
19 games.
"You can't really think about it that much," Blomberg
said. "It's to the point now where you don't want to put too much pressure
on yourself."
This weekend, Blomberg, a senior, and the Boilers
will have to face another type of pressure the pressure to win
and stay near the top of the standings and the pressure to beat rival
Indiana.
The Boilers (24-17, 14-4 Big Ten) and Hoosiers
(20-23, 3-12) will play four games in Bloomington, Ind. Purdue is a
half game behind Minnesota for first place in the conference.
"We definitely need to be playing our best baseball
right now and go down there and take care of business," Blomberg said.
Purdue won three of four games against Indiana
last season in West Lafayette. However, Indiana leads the all-time series
122-101-2.
Purdue is confident but not overconfident.
"With the game of baseball, you've got to be on
an even keel not too high, not too low," Blomberg said. "Every
Big Ten game from now on is huge."
