University chooses new registrar

On Friday Purdue named the interim registrar, Joy Garton Krueger, as the new University registrar.

"I'm very pleased and humbled to be appointed," said Krueger.

She had been the acting registrar since July of 2000, when the previous registrar, Marlesa Roney, left for a vice presidency at the University of Akron.

She was one of the people nominated for the position in July and was chosen after a nearly year-long national search. Doug Christiansen, assistant vice president for enrollment services and director of admissions and records, said Krueger was chosen because she was the best candidate and had strong credentials and a vast knowledge of Purdue and the regional campuses.

Her duties will include overseeing the student academic records, coordinating all commencement activities and issuing grade reports.

She will also serve as a member of the new TRAX student information system's development team.

"(I'll be) continuing to work in the new organization known as enrollment services, to align well with the direction of the new administration and, most importantly, to put students at the center of our service," said Krueger.

She said it would include encouraging student feedback and being more responsive to students' needs.

She is a 1980 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and received her master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue in 1987 and 1991 respectively.

Prior to working at the registrar's office, she was the director of professional preparation and licensure in the School of Education for 10 years. She was also the assistant dean of the School during her last three years.
