The Schools of Engineering and the School of Management have been consistently high-ranked in the most recent scholar rankings in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
The School of Management was recently ranked 6th internationally in a Wall Street Journal-Harris poll of the best MBA's programs in the world. These numbers came out from what Richard Cosier, dean of the School of Management, qualified as a "very sophisticated survey"; that is the true reflection of the recruiters' standpoint.
"Our recent No. 6 ranking in the Wall Street Journal is a tremendous statement of the high quality of our graduate program," said Cosier. "It is a strong testimony of the high quality of our graduates and the clear services we provide to our students."
The Schools of Engineering have also received high praises for their superior curriculums and its successful alumni, as shows the latest issue of U.S. and World News Report, in which the Schools of Engineering is No. 3 as ranked by employers among all the nation's engineering schools.
Richard Schwartz, dean of the Schools of Engineering, said these rankings are important because many prospective students make up their minds based on these rankings.
Schwartz also said an increase in the number of students applying to the Schools of Engineering is expected. "We are very pleased with the results," he said. "I would expect an increase (of the number of students) in all departments."
Cosier said that he does not expect an increase on the number of students going into Krannert; on the other hand, he expects an increase in the quality of the students and an improvement in the placement of Krannert's graduates into the job market.
Cosier also pointed out that these results are the product of the high quality faculty, students, alumni and staff at Krannert.
Schwartz said the recent rankings are because of the excellence shown by engineering graduates while in the corporate context. "This is due very much to the accomplishments of our alumni," he said. "The companies have learned that Purdue engineering students are very good and are very high achievers among corporations."
The deans of the respective schools showed to be satisfied by the various rankings. "It's an outstanding reflection of Purdue and the School of Management," Cosier said. " We are very proud of the people who helped us achieve this."
