New version of SSINFO to
provide broader range of student services

In hopes of providing a more efficient and complete
service, the Student Services office and the Management Information
department launched a new version of SSINFO, which is expected to match
with the students' service expectations.
Lee Gordon, director of the Student Services Computing
office, said the SSINFO Web site, which offers a wide variety of resources
to students, from updated schedules to job searches, is updated every
six months to implement various functions into the system.
"In surveying students, we felt there was a need
for the university to be competitive and provide with new services through
SSINFO," said Gordon.
The most recent version, the SSINFO 3.0, came out
late April and included five main additions.
The new version allows students to request tickets
for athletic events', and it allows students to be billed for their
tuition through an invoice. It also allows students to submit requests
for change of degree objective papers that can be either received through
mail or have them available for pickup, and it also allows students
to electronically submit university loan requests that can be used to
pay tuition, books, etc. The other two modifications include the improvement
in the search capability for student jobs and the addition of e-mail
notifications to students whenever their schedule have been modified.
Gordon said updates have been made every six months
since last year, however, this year might be slightly different because
there would be another version of SSINFO coming out on November and
another one coming out on January.
Gordon said the principle modification in the next
version would be the implementation of electronic tuition and fee bills,
which could also be paid on-line, contrary to the actual version, which
does not offer a way of paying bills electronically.
Most students use the Web site to keep track of
their schedules, change personal information, review grades and many
of the other user options in the system.
Gordon said the Web site received 23,700 hits and
1.5 million page requests, which occur each time a user loads a different
window in the program, in the week from April 29 to May 5 alone.
