'Serious upgrade'Trustees authorize $13 mil construction projects
By Ian Clift The Board of Trustees on Friday authorized $13.4 million to fund new phases in the renovation of Cary Quadrangle and Lilly Hall, as well as the construction of a new forestry research facility. The renovation to Lilly Hall will be in its fifth phase, said Tom Schmenk, architect and director of physical facilities at Purdue, and is part of a 14-phase project, which began six years ago and is expected to continue for the next 20 years. This phase consists of renovating spaces within the third floor of the biological science library located in Lilly. The 2,800 square feet will be made available through the reconstruction in order to provide space for library expansion. The budget will be $2.5 million for the current phase, said Schmenk.
Third dean finalist shares ideas at open forum
The third finalist for the dean of the Schools of Engineering said engineering needs two things in order to excel: resources and direction. "You can't excel without resources. You can't excel without knowing where you are going in the future," said Way Kuo, Texas A&M University's Royce E. Wisenbaker Chair Professor of Engineering in Innovation, executive associate dean of the Look College and associate vice chancellor of engineering. He spoke to a one-fourth filled auditorium as part of open forum for the position of the dean of the Schools of Engineering.
