Market Square

Considering that the costs of reconstructing the
Market Square theaters are too high, the Tippecanoe County Bureau of
Motor Vehicles will be making a permanent home elsewhere in Market Square.
The BMV was originally located in the Loeb's building,
but after employees began complaining of feeling sick there were no
longer enough employees to keep the branch in operation.
During that time many of the BMV employees transferred
to other
branches until a transitory location was found.
It is not known what caused the illnesses to the
BMV employees, said Alvin Hayes, spokesperson for the BMV.
The BMV moved from the Loeb's building to its temporary
location in the Market Square shopping center last year.
After settling in the temporary location, BMV officials
considered moving into the abandoned theaters.
Hayes said, however, the costs to change the theater
into a license branch were too high.
Jim Shook Jr., real estate agent for Market Square,
said the new location will be more economical and efficient than the
theater.
The BMV will soon make its move around the corner
from the temporary location to its permanent location still located
in Market Square.
"It won't affect any of the amenities we want to
offer to our customers," Hayes said.
The only major difference that the customers will
experience is available onsite parking, he said.
"(It's the) same services, different building,"
Hayes said.
The BMV will open in its new location in August,
he said.
