The Strawberry Festival is a fundraiser held every year at the Young Women's Christian Association. This year's Festival is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the YWCA of Lafayette, on the corner of Sixth and Cincinnati streets. Admission is free and will take place rain or shine.

"It's become a tradition," said Kristin Matz, public relations for the YWCA. "The admission is free so it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, you can come and listen to the music and have a good time."

Prior to the festival is a 5K run/walk for adults and a 1K kids' fun run. At 9 a.m. the entertainment will begin. Scheduled to perform are bands, such as The Clayton Miller Blues Band (11:45 a.m.), Noteworthy (9 a.m.) and Tevi Tarler & Brian McKenna (1:45 p.m.). Other events, including a strawberry bakeoff, will take place throughout the day.

Lafayette Savings Bank is one of the major sponsors of the festival this year. Becky McQuern, marketing director at LSB, said they try to do as much as they can for the community. "The YWCA has many great programs for women and for the community in general," she said. "We're proud to support those programs. The festival is a way to do that because it is their big fundraiser and we want to be a part of that."

The funds raised go towards programs at the YWCA, with a large portion for its social service programs, including the Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program, the Women's Cancer Program, health and wellness, education and services and community-wide educational programs. The goal amount to raise is $40,000.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday from 9-5 for clean up as well as for the various activities held throughout the day.
