Angel eyes entertains with drama, romance

By Morgan Conklin
Summer Reporter

I was the only one in the theater when I saw "Angel Eyes," and if that was any indication to the quality of the movie, then I should have turned around and walked away, but I am glad I didn’t.

The movie, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jim Caviezel, is a romance drama that had about three different sub-stories contained in the same film. Nonetheless, I found it to be entertaining.

Sharon Pogue (Lopez) is a cop for the Chicago Police Department. She takes her job seriously and is not afraid to enforce the law.

Catch (Caviezel) was the victim of a car accident and is now reluctant to be in vehicles or talk about his past. He seems to be in a world of his own.

One afternoon as Catch is wandering aimlessly through the streets, he sees Sharon at the local police hangout. As he is staring at her, a car drives by, firing shots into the restaurant.

Sharon chases down the men in the car and Catch ends up fending off her attacker to save her life.

The two begin dating and Sharon finds out about Catch’s past. The plot unfolds from there.

One subplot of the story was the struggle that Sharon encountered with her family. Her father was abusive and Sharon is resentful, and won’t associate with her father. However, her character changes from the beginning of the movie to the end.

The other subplot exposes Catch’s life before his car accident and how it has been drastically altered since that fateful day.

In all, the movie showed how two emotionally weak people found comfort and support in one another and were able to take on challenges that they were unable to face alone.
