Changes to improve bar atmosphere

GETTIN' A FACE LIFT: The exterior of Pete's bar, located at 200 Northwestern Ave. The remodeling of the bar is almost complete; renovations are being made to provide a better atmosphere.

Building improvements and additions to Pete's are scheduled for completion by today. This past week, the bar/restaurant has undergone a few changes.

There had been unconfirmed rumors that owner Pete Walker was going to sell his business. As a popular hangout among many Purdue students, the improvements only suggest these rumors are inaccurate, and Pete's will continue to provide students with the same food and atmosphere for years to come.

"We wanted to improve on a few of the little things around here," said manager Tim Locker.

An indoor patio has been constructed at the entrance with four new doors that allow the breeze to blow through the bar area. The patio will give the bar area more of a classy look and should be really nice on warm days, said Locker. Further inside, new seating has been added to better accommodate larger crowds.

"In the past, we've always ran out of seating when the first 50 or so people come in, this probably won't solve the problem, but it will help out a lot," said Locker. "Later on, we plan on replacing the windows and adding more doors."

Because Pete's is popular among students and local residents, many are excited about the changes.

"It will be nice; the breeze will help clear out a lot of the smoke from inside," said Kenny Shuler, a junior from the School of Technology.

"Pete's has always been a good bar with cheap beer and good food," said Dan Fowler, a senior in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences. "This should make it even better."
